THE NEED HAS NEVER BEEN GREATER
Life expectancy is rising in Canada and the number of seniors has increased by over 22%.
Today, we are faced with enormous challenges:
- 21% of Jewish seniors in Montreal live below the poverty line.
- 1 in 4 seniors lives with a mental illness.
- An estimated 1 in 3 people age 65+ live alone, often because of the death of a spouse, divorce or because they never married or had children.
- 30% of the senior population is at risk of social isolation.
- Over the next 25 years (by 2046), the population aged 85 and older could triple to almost 2.5 million people
- The proportion of people aged 85 and older is higher in Quebec than in the rest of the country.
